Please welcome the Holy Family Folk
Print! This is part of the Nativity Folk Series, which I can't wait to see this hanging in your beloved homes! The home is the sacred dwelling place of your own family.
Joseph is kissing Mary's forehead in this painting, to remind us of the tender love he had for her and the child Jesus.
I love to think about their first weeks as "new
parents" and the hidden life they lived as a holy family.
I imagine Joseph making sure they were both warm at night, keeping the fire going and covering them both in his cloak. He looks at Mary with awe as she sways baby Jesus to sleep. Mary beholds her baby boy, the Son of God resting in her arms.
Mary and Joseph pray together before going to sleep, asking God to guide their every step as they walk through the unknown together.
They smile at each other, consoled by each other's presence.
They laugh together as they learn to be a family.
They confide in each other about trials and fears. They are much like us.
I chose simple and soft patterns for this painting to
symbolize the humble and simple life of the Holy family. The same life we are called to live in our own homes.
The Mexican textile print on Joseph was influenced by my own Hispanic heritage on my Dad's side. The
delicate print on Mary points to her gentle grace.
