It’s mid-October and I’m watching the yellow leaves softly swirl to the ground as I type this on my front porch. They fall ever so gently, illuminated by the golden cast of late sun. The mountains have been dusted with the first snowfall of the season, and George Winston piano solos play in my mind.

It’s been a month of embracing the turn of the season, and bracing myself for the peak season of my business. I’ve been making more soup recipes for dinner, trying every single pumpkin product at Trader Joe’s, and going on lots of long hikes.

There’s also been a lot of yielding to God’s grace…pausing throughout my day for gratitude & surrender. Gratitude for the abundance of His gifts and surrendering the things that are out of my control. Making room for his voice amidst the anxieties I tend to drown myself in. I’ve been more protective over my prayer time and more quick to let myself just breathe when I need to, trusting God will take care of everything.

On a lighter note, there’s been loads of simple joys this season. Things that I’ve newly discovered and things that have made a comeback in my life. I hope you find something here that brings you joy, too!

9 Favorite Things

1. Using...this fancy milk frother from Amazon - we usually drink our coffee black around here, but it’s been so fun to change things up and experiment new recipes with this milk frother! We had been wanting one since last year and decided to splurge on the real deal.

2. Reading... The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi - my sweet sister gifted this to me last month because I’d been talking a lot about how much I love the podcast. This book is JAM PACKED with life hacks and so many practical steps to simplifying your life. Her motto is “Be a genius about the things that matter and be lazy about the things that don’t. It’s been SUCH a good read.

3. Listening to...Bonnie Light Horseman - This band totally shocked me when I heard them for the first time. Tim and I went to see Mandolin Orange in concert a few weeks ago and they were one of the openers. I hadn’t even heard of them but when they started to play I was mesmerized by their harmonies. If you appreciate folk tunes, look this trio up!

4. Making...maple whipped cream - this is seriously the easiest way to elevate any fall dessert. I actually made some recently to top over pumpkin pancakes, but the first time I made it was for pecan pie at thanksgiving. TO DIE FOR.

5. Finding...thrifted staples - I’ve been going thrift shopping more than usual and I scored my first pair of leather cowgirl boots and if you can believe it…my first denim jacket! Word of advice - go thrifting in fancy mountain towns whenever possible.

6. Marveling at....the aspens in Colorado!!! The yellow bursts of color against the white birch is something glorious. They turn and shed in the matter of 10-14 days, so we tried going on as many hikes as possible to catch their fleeting beauty in prime time.

7. Eating...Trader Joe’s Gluten Free pancake mix - I feel criminal for telling you this at the risk they might be sold out already in your area, but WOWZA these were lip smacking good. If they are sold out…remember this for next year. ;)

8. Trying...Cheeky Cream Blush in Paloma from Beautycounter - I am very newly in love with the concept of cream blush. You can apply and blend with your fingers, use it on cheeks and lips, and it’s more hydrating than powder. All 9 of their new colors are gorgeous, too. And the compacts are refillable. Love.

9. Wearing...Silk Bandanas - I guess I love these in all seasons, but I recently added a few more to my collection in hopes of stepping up my accessorizing game. I am not a jewelry person because I’m allergic to most kinds..so bandanas have been a fun compromise and I think they are so cute! I’m a sucker for fun patterns. Madewell always has the best selection.

Alright friends, my husband is home so I'm off to make a harvest salad for dinner and pour a glass of vino! Hope you enjoyed this!

xo,

Jana Marie
